Challenges of the Ninghang High-Speed Rail Second Line
The Ninghang High-Speed Rail Second Line, extending from Nanjing to Hangzhou, is about 161 kilometers long with a design speed of 350 km/h. This project, included in the “Fourteenth Five-Year” plan, is led by Anhui Province. However, disagreements over station plans and construction sequencing between Hangzhou and other involved areas, coupled with the National Railway Group’s skepticism about its necessity, pose challenges to the project’s progress.
Planning Issues with Wuhan Hub Direct Line
The Wuhan Hub Direct Line, a crucial part of the Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu High-Speed Rail, has faced planning support issues for its Hanyang Station City Field and Baishazhou Public Railway Bridge projects. The National Railway Group suggests waiting for the revision of the mid- and long-term railway network plan before approval, hindering the smooth progress expected for this project.
Progress on the Yantai-Xiyi Intercity Railway
The cross-river section plan of the Yantai-Xiyi Intercity Railway, long shrouded in uncertainty, finally sees progress. Recent updates indicate the start of bidding for feasibility studies and survey designs, with the final plan nearly confirmed. The tunnel, located about 3.4 kilometers downstream of the Jiangyin Bridge, will be approximately 8 kilometers long and utilize a public and rail separate construction approach, serving both high-speed trains and regular road traffic.
Conclusion: Coexistence of Challenges and Hope
While the Ninghang High-Speed Rail Second Line and Wuhan Hub Direct Line face various challenges in planning and construction, the advancements in the Yantai-Xiyi Intercity Railway bring a glimmer of hope. These updates on the three high-speed rail lines reflect the complexity of China’s high-speed rail development, highlighting a situation where challenges and hope coexist.
