The Hangzhou-Wenzhou High-Speed Railway, officially known as the Hangzhou-Wenzhou Intercity High-Speed Railway, is an intercity high-speed rail link connecting Hangzhou, the Jinhua-Yiwu metropolitan area, and Wenzhou. It is a crucial component of the high-speed railway network in the Yangtze River Delta and serves as a convenient passage from the Yangtze River Delta economic zone to the economic zone on the western coast of the straits. It is also an important strategic corridor connecting the Yangtze River economic belt with the Maritime Silk Road and is the closest major passage of the Beijing-Taipei High-Speed Railway (Beijing-Taipei). The Hangzhou-Wenzhou High-Speed Railway is 300 kilometers long, designed for speeds of up to 350 km/h. The route starts at the Hangzhou South Station hub and passes through Zhuji Station, Dongyang-Yiwu Airport Station, Hengdian Station, Pan’an (Xinwo/Renchuan) Station, Xianju Station, Yongjia (Wenzhou North Station), Yueqing (Wenzhou East Station), and ends at Wenzhou Airport, where it connects with the new Wenzhou-Fuzhou section of the Beijing-Taipei High-Speed Railway and the capacity-expanded Jinhua-Lishui-Wenzhou Railway.
The Hangzhou-Wenzhou High-Speed Railway, designed for a speed of 350 km/h, is divided into three phases of construction: the first phase (Yiwu to Wenzhou section), the second phase (Hangzhou to Yiwu section), and the Huzhou-Hangzhou West to Hangzhou-Huangshan connection line. It is an essential part of the intercity rail transit network in the Yangtze River Delta region. The initial section started construction on March 9, 2017, and the entire line is expected to be operational by 2022. The Hangzhou-Wenzhou High-Speed Railway is one of the key projects promoted in the national medium and long-term railway network plan and is also the first high-speed railway in China to initiate a pilot project for both PPP (Public-Private Partnership) and mixed-ownership reforms. Following the Shanghai-Kunming High-Speed Railway, it is the second high-speed railway within the Jinhua area designed for speeds of 350 km/h. Its planning and construction provide a significant transportation engine for Jinhua to create a national comprehensive transportation hub and to build the fourth largest metropolitan area in Zhejiang Province.
