The Hefei-Lu’an Intercity Railway (Heliu Intercity Railway) starts from Hefei City and heads west, passing through Xinqiao International Airport and Airport New City, then through Feixi County and Shou County, reaching Lu’an City. The railway line is approximately 90 kilometers long. The Heli City Rail is part of the Hefei economic zone’s 12th Five-Year Plan and includes the Hefei-Xinqiao International Airport-Lu’an Intercity Railway. According to future plans for the Yangtze River High-speed Railway, travel from Hefei to Chongqing would take only 4 hours, and to Chengdu only 5 hours. This railway is a crucial part of the Hefei one-hour commuter circle and the interconnectivity plan for the 14 cities along the Wanjiang River (already approved by the National Development and Reform Commission). It is the first intercity railway to be constructed in Anhui Province and serves as a model for the Wanjiang development plan.
The Heli Intercity Railway, designed for speeds of up to 350 km/h, is an essential part of both the Hefei one-hour commuter circle and the interconnectivity plan for the 14 cities along the Wanjiang River, which has been submitted to the National Development and Reform Commission. It is one of the intercity railways that began construction early in Anhui Province. The railway will operate in a transit-like fashion with multiple stations along the route. The project spans approximately 90 kilometers with a total investment of 19.5 billion yuan. The starting point is Hefei South High-speed Railway Station (with future plans to connect to Hefei’s new west station), passing through Hefei Xinqiao International Airport, and eventually connecting to Lu’an Railway Station. The Heli City Rail is expected to become the first intercity railway to begin construction in the province. Once completed, it will be connected through the Hefei railway hub. Residents of Lu’an, Huainan, Bengbu, and other areas will be able to take the city rail to Xinqiao Airport, and it will take only about 15 minutes for Hefei citizens to travel from the South Station to the airport.
