The Shanghai-Hancheng high-speed railway, also known as the Shanghai-Hancheng Express Passenger Transport Corridor, is a high-speed railway under construction in China with a total length of 2,078 kilometers. It starts from Shanghai and passes through Nanjing, Hefei, Wuhan, Chongqing and other cities to Chengdu. The design speed is 200 kilometers per hour, and the journey time on the entire line is about 10 hours, which is more than 20 hours faster than the current express train from Shanghai to Chengdu. This line is the longest “one horizontal” among China’s “four vertical and four horizontal” passenger lines. It will serve China’s east coast, central China and southwestern regions. It is expected to be completed and put into use in 2011.
