The Chengdu-Chongqing High-Speed Railway began construction in March 2010. The passenger-dedicated line is 308 kilometers long and uses a double-track ballastless track system. Bridges and tunnels account for 66% of the total length of the line. There are a total of 12 stations along the line: Chengdu East, Jianyang South, Ziyang North, Zizhong North, Neijiang North, Longchang North, Rongchang North, Dazu, Yongchuan East, Bishan, Shapingba, and Chongqing. The western end of the line connects to Chengdu East Station at the Chengdu hub, while the eastern end reaches Shapingba Station at the Chongqing hub, integrating into the existing Chongqing railway station located in Chongqing’s Yuzhong district. Designed for a maximum speed of 350 kilometers per hour, the construction period is expected to be 4 years, with the line anticipated to open in 2014. Once operational, the travel time from Chongqing to Chengdu could be as fast as 56 minutes, effectively bringing Chengdu and Chongqing into a 1-hour economic circle.
