The Beijing-Kunming High-Speed Railway, commonly known as the Jingkun High-Speed Railway, starts in Beijing and passes through cities such as Xi’an, Chengdu, Chongqing, and finally ends in Kunming. The main line and branches of the Jingkun High-Speed Railway include the Jingxiong Intercity Railway (part of the Beijing-Hong Kong-Taiwan High-Speed Railway to Xiong’an), the Xinxiong High-Speed Railway, the Taiyuan-Yan’an High-Speed Railway, the Xi’an-Yan’an High-Speed Railway, the Beijing-Zhangjiakou High-Speed Railway, the Datong-Zhangjiakou High-Speed Railway, the Datong-Xi’an High-Speed Railway, the West Xi’an-Chengdu High-Speed Railway (including the segment through Chongqing), and the Chengdu-Kunming High-Speed Railway. Once the entire Jingkun High-Speed Railway is completed and operational, a major inter-regional corridor will be formed between Beijing, the Guanzhong Plain, and the southwestern region, reducing the high-speed rail travel time from Kunming to Beijing to within 10 hours.
The Jingkun High-Speed Railway starts in Beijing and passes through places such as Taiyuan, Xi’an, Chengdu, Chongqing, and Kunming. The main line and its branches consist of the Jingxiong High-Speed Railway (Beijing to Xiong’an), the Xinxiong High-Speed Railway (Xiong’an to Xinzhou), the Beijing-Zhangjiakou High-Speed Railway (Beijing to Zhangjiakou), the Datong-Zhangjiakou High-Speed Railway (Zhangjiakou to Datong), the Datong-Xi’an High-Speed Railway (Datong to Xi’an), the Taiyuan-Yan’an High-Speed Railway (Taiyuan to Yan’an), the Xi’an-Yan’an High-Speed Railway (Xi’an to Yan’an), the Xi’an-Chengdu High-Speed Railway (Xi’an to Chengdu), the Chengdu-Chongqing High-Speed Railway (Chengdu to Chongqing), the Xi’an-Chongqing High-Speed Railway (Xi’an to Chongqing), the Chongqing-Kunming High-Speed Railway (Chongqing to Kunming), and the Chengdu-Kunming High-Speed Railway (Chengdu to Kunming). It ultimately reaches Kunming, connecting the North China and Southwestern regions and traversing through city clusters like Jingjinji (Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei), Guanzhong, Chengyu (Chengdu-Chongqing), and Central Yunnan. In the future, it is planned to extend to Southeast Asia, passing through Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, and finally reaching Singapore. The Jingkun High-Speed Railway is a strategic national decision aimed at developing the border regions of Yunnan, transforming the long-standing backward transportation situation in the area, connecting the Guanzhong Plain, promoting interconnectivity between the southwestern region and other areas, and accelerating the achievement of poverty alleviation goals.
