The construction of high-speed railways often signifies a major leap in a region’s transportation. Many cities become closer due to high-speed railways, bringing more opportunities for development. From the end of 2023 to 2024, China plans to start construction on three new high-speed railway lines: Chang-Gan High-Speed Railway, Tong-Ji Railway, and Shao-Yong High-Speed Railway. The completion of these lines will greatly improve the transportation in the cities along the lines and promote comprehensive economic and social development.

Chang-Gan High-Speed Railway(长赣高铁)

The Chang-Gan High-Speed Railway will connect Changsha, the capital of Hunan Province, with Ganzhou in Jiangxi Province. The line is 420 kilometers long with a design speed of 350 km/h and an estimated investment of 846.23 billion yuan. Upon completion, the travel time from Changsha to Ganzhou will be reduced to within 2 hours. The construction of this line is expected to promote the interconnected development of cities along the Xiangjiang River. It is reported that the preliminary work for the Chang-Gan High-Speed Railway is underway, with construction expected to start in 2024 and completion between 2027 and 2028.

Tong-Ji Railway(铜吉铁路)

The Tong-Ji Railway will start from Tongren in Guizhou, pass through the ancient city of Fenghuang in Hunan, and reach the connection point of the Zhangjihuai Railway in Hunan. It is about 300 kilometers long with a design speed of 250 km/h. This line will shorten the travel time from Guizhou to Hunan and is crucial for the development of transportation from Guizhou to the southwestern region of Hunan. The environmental impact assessment for the Tong-Ji Railway is in progress, with approval expected by the end of 2023 and construction starting in 2024.

Shao-Yong High-Speed Railway(邵永高铁)

The Shao-Yong High-Speed Railway will connect Shaoyang and Yongzhou, two major cities in southern Hunan, spanning 96 kilometers with a design speed of 350 km/h. The construction of this line is of great significance for promoting the economic development of southern Hunan. This high-speed railway will accelerate the integration process of the southern region of Hunan, helping these cities to participate collectively in the construction of the Yangtze River Economic Belt. Although the funding for the Shao-Yong High-Speed Railway mainly relies on local government with less national funding, we look forward to its commencement of construction soon.
