Ge’ermu-Ku’erle Railway 格库铁路

Ge’ermu-Ku’erle Railway is a national railway Class I passenger and freight railway connecting Golmud City, Hainan Mongolian and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province, and Korla City, the capital of Bayingolin Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The northern section of the Chengdu-Kujiang Railway is a newly built railway connecting the Qinghai-Tibet Railway and the Southern Xinjiang Railway. It is an important part of the road network framework in northwest China. After the completion of the Geku Railway, the journey from Golmud to Korla was shortened from the original 26 hours by bus to about 12 hours by train.
The Geku Railway starts from Golmud, Qinghai Province, goes westward through Wutumeiren, Gansen, and Huatugou, crosses the Altyn Mountains, and then passes through Milan, Ruoqiang, and Yuli in the Xinjiang Autonomous Region to Korla. The total length of the main line is 1,214.6 kilometers. The Geku Railway is one of China’s major land transportation corridors leading to West Asia, the Mediterranean and the Black Sea. It is conducive to further improving the land transportation corridors from my country’s inland to border areas, Central Asia, the Mediterranean and other regions. It is necessary to improve the railway network structure in western my country, especially in Qinghai and Xinjiang provinces, further promote the Silk Road Economic Belt strategy and the economic and social development of Qinghai and Xinjiang provinces, promote economic and trade exchanges and resource development in areas along the route, and strengthen the unity of ethnic regions. and consolidating national defense and security.

格库铁路（Ge’ermu-Ku’erle Railway），是连接青海省海西蒙古族藏族自治州格尔木市和新疆维吾尔自治区巴音郭楞蒙古自治州首府库尔勒市的国铁Ⅰ级客货共线铁路，为成库铁路北段，是连接青藏铁路和南疆铁路的一条新建铁路，是中国西北路网骨架的重要组成部分。格库铁路建成后，格尔木到库尔勒由原先乘坐汽车班车的26个小时缩短至火车客车12个小时左右。
格库铁路线路自青海省格尔木，向西经乌图美仁、甘森、花土沟，翻越阿尔金山后，再经新疆自治区米兰、若羌、尉犁至库尔勒，正线全长1214.6公里。格库铁路是中国通往西亚、地中海和黑海地区的陆路运输大通道之一，有利于进一步完善我国内陆至边疆、中亚、地中海等地区的陆路运输通道。对完善我国西部地区尤其是青海和新疆两省区的铁路网结构，进一步推动丝绸之路经济带战略和青海、新疆两省区经济社会发展，促进沿线地区经贸往来和资源开发，加强民族地区团结和巩固国防安全等方面具有重要意义。
