Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan Intercity Railway 长株潭城际铁路

The Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan Intercity Railway is an intercity railway that connects the cities of Changsha, Zhuzhou, and Xiangtan within Hunan Province, China. Running in a north-south direction, it serves as the backbone of the intercity rail network for the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan city cluster. The railway is 105 kilometers long and features 24 stations. It is designed for a speed of 200 kilometers per hour, with the initial operating speed being 160 kilometers per hour. The construction of the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan Intercity Railway began on June 30, 2010. The segment south of Changsha Station was completed and started operating on December 26, 2016, and the section west of Changsha Station opened on December 26, 2017.

The railway’s layout is “Y”-shaped. Starting from the southern end of Changsha Station, it branches off south towards Muyun, where it splits into two lines leading to Zhuzhou and Xiangtan respectively; and west across the Xiang River to Lei Feng Avenue. The westward line within Changsha’s urban area extends north from Changsha Station, running parallel to the Beijing-Guangzhou Railway, and enters a tunnel before De Ya Road, continuing underground to the west beneath Dongfeng Road and Furong North Road, then along Kaifu Temple Road towards the west, crossing the Xiang River and passing north of the Changsha Municipal Government to reach Lei Feng Avenue Station. The southward line from Changsha Station enters underground near Shumu Ling, passing through a 12.64-kilometer tunnel and emerging near the South Bus Station, continuing on an elevated bridge along the old National Highway 107 and Furong South Road to Muyun Station. From Muyun Station, the line splits again: one branch follows the east side of the Beijing-Guangzhou Railway on an elevated bridge via Baima Ridge, along Red Flag Road in Zhuzhou to Baishigang, goes under Xinhua West Road, and enters the existing Zhuzhou Station, then extends at grade towards Qidouchong; the other branch crosses to the west of the Beijing-Guangzhou Railway on an elevated bridge over Zhaoshan, along the east side of Furong Avenue through Hetang and across the board pond, spans the Xiang River to connect to Xiangtan Station.
