Baoji-Zhongwei Railway 宝中铁路

The Baoji-Zhongwei Railway, stretching from Baoji in Shaanxi province to Zhongwei in Ningxia, passes through the Xihai region (Xiji, Guyuan, Haiyuan), which is home to the Hui ethnic group, and serves as a mixed traffic railway for both passengers and freight. Significant stations along this route include Baoji, Qianyang, Long County, Huating, Pingliang, Guyuan, Tongxin, Zhongwei, and others. The Baoji-Zhongwei Railway is a railway line in Northwest China: it starts from Baoji in Shaanxi province in the southeast, goes through Pingliang city in Gansu province, and ends in Zhenluobao in Zhongwei county, Ningxia, in the northwest. It connects the city of Baoji in Shaanxi province with the city of Zhongwei in Ningxia, passing through the Xihai region, which is populated by the Hui ethnic group.

The additional second-line project of the Baoji-Zhongwei Railway goes through Baoji, Pingliang, Guyuan, Wuzhong, and Zhongwei cities, traversing 14 counties and cities across the provinces and regions of Shaanxi, Gansu, and Ningxia. The total length of the additional second line is 431.09 kilometers, designed as a double-track electrified railway. The target speed for the section in Ningxia is 200 kilometers per hour. The existing Baoji-Zhongwei line is already operating at a 98.7% utilization rate, and its capacity has reached a state of oversaturation, struggling to meet the demands of daily transportation, let alone adapt to the transportation market fluctuations during peak travel times such as the Spring Festival, summer travel season, and national holidays like May Day and National Day. This situation has become a “bottleneck” in the regional railway network. With the construction of the additional second line, the existing route can be upgraded to higher speeds, transforming the Baoji-Zhongwei Railway into a dual-track, high-capacity, and fast transit corridor, thereby thoroughly resolving the issues of strained transport capacity and poor transportation quality.

宝中铁路(Baoji-Zhongwei Railway)南起陕西宝鸡北至宁夏中卫，宁夏段途经回族聚居地西海固地区(西吉、固原、海原)，为客货兼运型铁路。重要车站有宝鸡、千阳、陇县、华亭、平凉、固原、同心、中卫等车站。宝中铁路是中国西北的一条铁路线:东南边的起点是陕西省的宝鸡，经过甘肃平凉市，最后后西北边的终点是宁夏中卫县的镇罗堡。宝中铁路连接陕西省宝鸡市和宁夏中卫市，宁夏段途经回族聚居地西海固地区。 宝中铁路增建二线项目途经宝鸡、平凉、固原、吴忠和中卫市，纵贯陕、甘、宁三省区14个县市，增建二线全长431.09公里，设计为双线电气化铁路，宁夏段速度目标值为200公里/小时。既有宝中线利用率已达98.7%，通过能力已处于超饱和状态，难以满足日常运输的需求，更难以适应春运、暑运、”五一”、”十一”等节假日客流增加等运输市场波动。这种状况已成为区域铁路网中的”瓶颈”。增建二线后，现有线路通过提速改造，宝中铁路可形成双线快速、大能力通道，从而彻底解决通道运输能力紧张、运输质量低下的局面。
