The Chengdu-Kunming High-Speed Railway (abbreviated as the Cheng-Kun High-Speed Railway) is a high-speed rail link connecting Chengdu in Sichuan Province to Kunming in Yunnan Province. It is an integral part of the national “Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal” high-speed railway network, specifically within the Beijing-Kunming corridor (Note: The Beijing-Kunming corridor is divided into the Sichuan line and the Chongqing line. The Sichuan line includes the Xicheng High-Speed Railway and the Cheng-Kun High-Speed Railway; the Chongqing line includes the Xiyu High-Speed Railway and the Yu-Kun High-Speed Railway).
The section of the Cheng-Kun High-Speed Railway that lies within Sichuan is designed for speeds of up to 350 km/h, while the section in Yunnan is designed for speeds of up to 250 km/h. The segment from Yibin West Station to Kunming South Station is shared with the Yu-Kun High-Speed Railway. The planned stations include Chengdu Tianfu Station, Tianfu Airport Station, Ziyang West Station, Zizhong West Station, and Weiyuan Station. The rail line is designed to connect with the Yu-Kun High-Speed Railway through the planned Sichuan Southern Intercity Railway (Zigong to Yibin section), forming a new high-speed corridor between Chengdu and Kunming. There is also a planned Ziyang north spur line that starts at Tianfu International Airport and connects to Ziyang North Station via the Tianxingjing line, which is about 21 kilometers long and connects with the Chengyu High-Speed Railway.
The Cheng-Kun High-Speed Railway originates from Chengdu East Station and passes through Chengdu Tianfu International Airport before reaching Zigong East Station, where it connects with the Sichuan Southern Intercity Railway and then proceeds to Kunming South Station. The new section (from Chengdu to Zigong) is 176 kilometers long and designed for speeds of 350 km/h. Upon completion, the Cheng-Kun High-Speed Railway will strengthen economic and transportation links between Chengdu and Kunming, as well as other regions, significantly reducing travel time for residents along the route. The travel time by rail from Chengdu to Kunming will be reduced from 18 hours to about 4 hours.
Additionally, the project will allow residents of the central urban area and Tianfu New Area to quickly reach Tianfu International Airport. Using the Cheng-Kun High-Speed Railway, the Chengdu East Station to Tianfu Airport segment can be traveled in about 30 minutes, and Tianfu Station to Tianfu International Airport can be reached in about 8 minutes. Furthermore, the railway will expand the service range of Chengdu Tianfu International Airport, contributing to the development of a national-level international aviation hub.
Leveraging the Chengdu to Zigong section of the Cheng-Kun High-Speed Railway, along with the Chengyu Passenger Special Line and the Cheng-Mian-Le Passenger Special Line, there will be high-speed rail access from Tianfu Airport to the plain city group. It will also establish rapid connections with eight cities including Chongqing, Wuhan, Xi’an, Kunming, Guiyang, Changsha, Lanzhou, and Xining, thereby creating a national-level international aviation hub in the inland region.
蓉昆高铁是连接四川成都到云南昆明的高铁，是国家”八纵八横”中京昆通道的重要组成部分(注:京昆通道分为四川线及重庆线，四川线:西成高铁–蓉昆高铁;重庆线:西渝高铁–渝昆高铁)。蓉昆高铁四川段设计时速350km/h，云南段设计时速250km/h。蓉昆高铁宜宾西站–昆明南站段与渝昆高铁共线。中间规划成都天府站、天府机场站、资阳西站、资中西站、威远站。通过规划的川南城际铁路（自贡至宜宾段）衔接渝昆高速铁路，形成新的蓉昆高速大通道。同时规划资阳北支线，起于天府国际机场经天星井线路所至资阳北站与成渝高铁连通，线路长21公里。 蓉昆高速铁路起于成都东站，经成都天府国际机场，到达自贡东站后，通过川南城际铁路衔接渝昆高速铁路，最终止于昆明南站。线路新建部分（成都至自贡段）全长176公里，设计速度350公里/小时。蓉昆高速铁路建成后，将进一步强化成都与昆明等地区间经济交通联系，缩短沿线地区城际居民出行的时间距离。项目建成后，成都至昆明的铁路旅行时间将由18小时缩短为4小时;同时，将满足中心城区、天府新区居民快速到达天府国际机场。通过蓉昆高铁成都至自贡段可实现成都东站至天府机场30分钟快速到达、天府站至天府国际机场8分钟快速到达;此外，还将扩大成都天府国际机场的辐射服务范围，有助于打造国家级国际航空枢纽。依托蓉昆高铁成都至自贡段、成渝客专、成绵乐客专，可实现天府机场至平原城市群均有高速铁路通达，并且建立与重庆、武汉、西安、昆明、贵阳、长沙、兰州、西宁八个城市的快速联系，打造内陆地区的国家级国际航空枢纽。
