The Steel Dragon from Longyan to Longchuan

Spanning 262 kilometers like a dragon, the rail route connecting Longyan in Fujian to Longchuan in Guangdong is the much-anticipated “Longlong High-Speed Rail(龙龙高铁).” Officially included in the national railway plan in 2016, this major project is now taking shape with an investment of 44.3 billion yuan.

The Significance of Longlong High-Speed Rail

The “Longlong High-Speed Rail” is more than just a mere connection of lines. Starting from Fujian and passing through places like Shanghang and Wuping in Guangdong, it sweeps through Meizhou, Xingning, and Wuhua, and ends in Longchuan. It serves not only as an emotional bridge between two provinces but also as a catalyst for economic development.

Project Highlights

The initial 64.3 kilometers from Longyan to Wuping requires an investment of 8.56 billion yuan, with the expectation of hearing the train’s whistle by the end of 2023. The 101.7 kilometers stretch from Wuping to Meizhou, involving an investment of about 19.3 billion yuan, requires 1.75 billion yuan for the Fujian section, covering 12.7 kilometers. This segment has already received land pre-approval, aiming for operation by 2028. The 96 kilometers from Meizhou to Longchuan, needing an investment of 16.44 billion yuan, is anticipated to be operational by mid-2024.

Is the Massive Investment Worth It?

The significance of this 44.3 billion yuan investment goes beyond the figure itself. With the advent of the high-speed rail, the original five-hour journey from Longyan to Meizhou will be shortened to just one hour. The travel time to Guangzhou and Shenzhen will be reduced from 10-12 hours to 3 hours and 2.5 hours, respectively. This railway not only revolutionizes travel but also fosters deeper economic and cultural integration between the two provinces.

Regional Interaction

Fujian and Guangdong, provinces rich in history and culture, are now brought closer by the “Longlong High-Speed Rail.” This route is not just a pathway for travel but a solid bond in the fields of economy, culture, and tourism. In the future, Fujian’s cuisine, crafts, and traditions will more easily flow into Guangdong, while Guangdong’s commerce, technology, and cultural events will flourish in Fujian.

Transformation of Local Cities

For local cities like Wuping County, previously lesser-known, the construction of the high-speed rail brings a significant opportunity. Its agricultural, cultural, and tourism resources are expected to be better developed and promoted thanks to this rail line. Meizhou, an important city in eastern Guangdong, will benefit from more convenient exchanges with surrounding cities through the “Longlong High-Speed Rail,” aiding its development into a more significant regional center.

Future Prospects

The 44.3 billion yuan investment represents a vision for the future, anticipating convenient land connections between the two provinces and collaborative progress among the Southeast Coastal areas, the Yangtze River Delta, and the Greater Bay Area. We hope that more people will integrate, collaborate, and progress through the “Longlong High-Speed Rail,” shaping a more prosperous tomorrow. The “Longlong High-Speed Rail” is more than just a road; it carries the hopes of both regions, symbolizing progress, expansion, and the future. The 44.3 billion yuan is for a brighter dawn and the prosperity and strengthening of both provinces and the nation as a whole.
